Hungary history

Hungary today was formerly inhabited by Dacian tribes, Thracian and Illyrian. The Roman Empire conquered the territory in the year 35, and became a province of the Empire under the name of Pannonia. Between 400-600, Pannonia was invaded by a series of migratory peoples, such as Huns, Ostrogoths, Lombards, and later the Avars.

In the Roman era, the region of the current state called Hungary, was called Pannonia in Latin, being inhabited by various Dacian tribes. The last that have invaded the Pannonian Plain in that period were the Huns, led by Attila. Huns have made an alliance with the Roman Empire, the last ones using them in the fights against the Wales. In 453 Attila dies, and once with him, his empire. Huns were expelled by the Germanic tribes of the Lombards and especially of the Gepids, who took possession of this territory. Around 560, the Avars conquered Pannonia and keep under their control for 200 years until the ninth century. There followed a period of domination of the Franks, the kingdom of Great Moravia and the Slavic principalities Balatonulu the end of the ninth century, when the Hungarians in Pannonia pastruns. In the picture, Hungarian invasion led by Attila. There followed a period of domination of the Franks, of the Kingdom of Great Moravia and of the Slavic principalities of Balatonulu at the end of the ninth century, when the Hungarians invaded Pannonia. Hungarians descend from the Ugric family - branch of Finno-Ugric tribes, natives of Asia, from the Altai mountains region. They roke into Europe crossingthe Middle Volga and the Ural Mountains, and later, around 830 they have passed between Don and the Dnieper. Placed in 896 in the Tisa plain, they encountered here a population of Latins , but of almost assimilated Slavs as well. They have called themselves "Hungarians", meaning "man / human being." This term is thought to come from one of the populations of the Turkish nation, which was named onogurilorlogurilor, mentioned in Byzantine sources from the very beginning of the first century. Ethnonyms appeared in various sources under many forms such as "Uggroi", " Ugry ", " Hungary", "Hungaria ". Hungarians were small in stature, their eyes were slightly oblique, the tone of their skin was darker and the hair was usually worn in braided tails. Once settled in the Pannonian plain, the Hungarians began to undertake numerous invasions in the Balkans between the years 959 and 970. The Hungarian duke Vaik accepted Christianization under the the name of Stefan in 1001, which he imposed to his people, and called himself the King. Later, descendants of Stefan won a part of Croatia and the Adriatic Coast of Dalmatia. For a century, they have fought the Romanians to conquer the region of Transylvania.

There were for sure many other interesting things to say about the Hungarian history, but one article could not manage to sum up years of fights, conquers and loses. The Hungarian people had a hard work in settling down where they have the territory of the country nowadays, and the historical chronics prove it.
